Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Police then found numerous other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be solved rapidly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
