Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The ex-president was sentenced of orchestrating a military coup in the ninth month and given more than a 27-year term in prison, but he continued under house arrest pending appeals.

Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the move to detain the elderly politician was a precautionary step after recent developments were revealed.

This included seeking to disable his electronic bracelet and a summons to a demonstration that could facilitate a chance to flee".

Court Filing Details Escape Risks

In a paperwork permitting the custody, the magistrate said data from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the former leader's aim to disable the surveillance device to ensure success in his flight.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the chaos caused by the demonstration called by his child.

His offspring, Flávio, who works as a legislator, called for a meeting of his backers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday evening.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on social media on Friday: "Are you going to fight for your country, or observe everything from your phone there on your couch? I urge you to fight with us."

He said the demonstration would be so backers could offer prayers for his physical condition and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our nation."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of Justice Moraes's decision was the chance of the former president's "relocation to diplomatic missions near the residence, considering that the probes revealed a record of arranging to request asylum through a embassy office", a statement said.

Context of Sentencing

The former president was found guilty of heading a scheme aimed at maintaining his control after he was defeated in the national vote to his political opponent, Lula.

High Court judges said that he knew of a plan which included plans to murder the current president and his VP candidate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to detain and kill Justice Moraes - the High Court judge who has been overseeing the former president's case.

The conspiracy was stopped because it failed to get the support of the armed forces officials. His successor was inaugurated without problem on January 1st, 2023.

But a seven days after, on 8 January, numerous his backers stormed and vandalised official structures in the capital, the capital city.
