Fall Classic Game 7 Draws 51M Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extended matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a aggregate 51 million viewers across the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game secured 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase over the last finale featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-match World Series recorded 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total American average was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to the previous year and the network’s best postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen different languages.
